One hotel pickup in the morning, a guided crossing at Chiang Khong in the afternoon, and a transfer straight to your accommodation in Houay Xai, so you skip the public bus terminals and the border guesswork.

The Experience: Chiang Mai to Houay Xai by bus
Morning: Chiang Mai to the border
- 9:00–9:30 am: Pickup from your hotel in Chiang Mai in an air-conditioned vehicle.
- Morning: The road north passes through Chiang Rai province. There is a comfort stop on the way.
- ~3:00–3:30 pm: Arrive at Thai immigration in Chiang Khong. Your driver shows you where to get your exit stamp.
Afternoon: crossing into Laos
- Bridge: Shuttle bus across the Fourth Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge (ticket included).
- Lao immigration: Visa on arrival for most nationalities. Bring US dollars for the fee and one passport photo. Our representative meets you once you are through.
- Late afternoon: Transfer to your hotel or guesthouse in Houay Xai. The rest of the day is free; sunset over the Mekong is a short walk from most guesthouses.
